WHERE: Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion, 107 West Main Street, Middletown, MD 21769

Registration is open

This is a summer jazz camp for students entering grades 7 through 12 and college who want to play, and learn more about playing, in a big band. We will form a big band consisting of trumpets, trombones, saxophones (alto, tenor, and bari), piano, bass, guitar, drum set and auxiliary percussion (congos, shaker, triangle, cowbell, tambourine, etc.)

If you can only attend one week, that is fine! Please contact Mr. Shearer before registering and you will only pay half price.

Once a maximum instrumentation is established, a waiting list to form a second group will be started. The band will be formed on a first come first served basis. So, please register ASAP.

Trumpets, trombones, saxophones, basses and guitars will need to provide their own instruments. If needed, a drum set, keyboard, and amplifiers can be provided.

All students will need to bring their own wire music stand.

Matthew Shearer, Director of Bands at Middletown High School, will direct the camp. Click for Matthew's bio.

Instruction will focus on:

Performing different styles of jazz within an ensemble
Interpretation of jazz notation and terminology
Introduction to improvisation and opportunities to develop improvisation skills

The camp will culminate with a performance by the band.
Students will receive a commemorative T-Shirt, which will be worn for the performance.

COST: $200.00 payable to Matthew Shearer
