The 4th Annual
M-TOWN JAZZ CAMP 2010
WHEN: July 19-22, July 26-29, 2010; 8:00am - 12:00pm
WHERE: Evangelical Lutheran Church Zion, 107 West Main Street, Middletown, MD 21769
This is a summer jazz camp for students entering grades 7 through 12 and college who want to play, and learn more about playing, in a big band. We will form a big band consisting of flutes, clarinets, trumpets, trombones, tubas, saxophones (alto, tenor, and bari), piano, bass, guitar, drum set and auxiliary percussion (congos, shaker, triangle, cowbell, tambourine, etc.)
If you can only attend one week or even by day, that is fine!
Once a maximum instrumentation is established, a waiting list to form a second group will be started. The band will be formed on a first come first served basis. So, please register ASAP.
Flutes, Clarinets, Trumpets, Trombones, Saxophones (except Bari), Basses and Guitars will need to provide their own instruments. If needed, a drum set, keyboard, amplifiers, bari saxes, and tubas can be provided.
All students will need to bring their own wire music stand.
Matthew Shearer, Director of Bands at Middletown High School, will direct the camp.
Instruction will focus on:
Performing different styles of jazz within an ensemble
Interpretation of jazz notation and terminology
Introduction to improvisation and opportunities to develop improvisation skills
Email Mr. Shearer with questions - shearermr@gmail.com
COST: $150.00 payable to Matthew Shearer (or $75 per week, or $20 per day)
Students are encouraged to attend the whole camp, however if you have a scheduling conflict you may attend either week or by day.
